Pastor Mary Kay Best

Mary Kay grew up in the Seven Springs area and gave her heart to Jesus at just seven years old. Raised in a hardworking and loving family, she learned the values of faith, perseverance, and service early in life. She graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Family & Consumer Science, Business, and Education, along with double minors in English and Political Science.

From age 21 to 26, she worked as a legislative secretary in the NC General Assembly before returning home to Seven Springs. There she spent six years in sales and marketing, and later began a teaching career in the Wayne County school system. She taught 8th grade math, Family & Consumer Science (grades 6–12), and 7th grade English/Language Arts.

During her years of teaching—and while raising two children as a single parent—the Lord began to stir a deeper call in her life. She earned a BS in Religion from the University of Mount Olive and served part-time as a children’s director at a local church. About a year and a half later, she experienced a powerful call from the Holy Spirit into pastoral ministry. With her family’s support, she transitioned into pastoring within the United Methodist Church while continuing to teach full-time and working on her Master of Divinity degree.

After five and a half years, Mary Kay resigned from the UMC, believing its leadership was drifting from the authority of God’s Word. She stepped away from teaching to focus on ministry and continued filling in as a pastor wherever she was called. She pursued seminary studies online through Asbury Theological Seminary and Regent University, before pausing in 2017 to help care for her mother alongside her father.

Our Beliefs

Our Beliefs

What We Believe

As a nondenominational church, we hold firmly to the truth of God’s Word and the saving love of Jesus Christ. We believe in God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We are dedicated to preaching, teaching, and living the Gospel so that all may come to know Him. We believe in God's grace, mercy and love for all. We believe we are to love people into God's family. We believe that we are to help people learn how to live the Christian life. This way of living brings peace and an assurance that Jesus is your true best friend. We believe a close relationship with Jesus Christ will help you fulfill your destiny here on earth, and to use the gifts and talents He has given you to tell others all about Him and how He can change their lives as well.

Our Motto

Our Motto

Warmth & Love Awaits You

At Beston, we believe the church should feel like home—a place where you are welcomed, known, and loved. Every service, prayer, and act of ministry is rooted in the love of Christ. The bottom line...we want you to be alright. We want you to know this Jesus, who is alive and awaits your surrendered heart. We pray that you will discover the wonderful love of Christ, more and more.

Our Foundation

Our Foundation

Rooted in the Word

“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” – Romans 15:7 The Holy Word of God is the truth by which Christians are taught to live by. God's word has the answers for all of life. The whole Bible is about how much God loves every human being. Part of the discipline of living the Christian life is reading and studying God's word some each day. This is how we get to know the God of the universe and all of creation. He is the "I Am." The Bible tells us that He is sovereign over all things. The Bible is the "Old Testament"--a testimony of the original covenant and the "New Testament"--a testimony of the life of Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of the new covenant. It is Holy and it is to be cherished. Then as we learn it and apply it to our lives, we come to love God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit--because we learn that Jesus willingly died on the cross for every single one of us. Then we fall in love with Him. The Holy Bible is truly a treasure.

How We Began

The Church at Beston was born out of a faithful response to God’s call. A small country church with a big heart, we stepped forward in faith to remain true to God’s Word. Today, we continue to grow as a loving, Spirit-led community, welcoming all who seek to know Jesus.
